FishCampHuntHike.com loves to spread the word about cool outdoor companies. We get especially excited highlighting our own Arizona-based businesses. We'd like to thank Dan Adler from Diamond Outfitters for taking some time to tellus more about his Guiding and Outfitting operation!
FCHH: How did you get in to the outfitting business?
Dan - After leaving the military, I wanted to go into business doing something that I love doing and am passionate about. I love anything involving hunting and fishing. I knew I wanted to work for myself but I needed a talented team of supporting guides to help me build the business. So while sitting around a campfire admiring giant mule deer and a bull elk from a successful day, I decided to open Diamond Outfitters of Arizona nearly a decade ago with some of my closest friends.
FCHH: What is the most challenging hunt to guide?
The late rifle elk hunt offers some of the greatest challenges. You are looking to find trophy bulls in a post rut environment where many of the bulls have moved into isolation to recover and put on weight before the winter begins. Many bulls have broken antler points and your clients don't want those and we don't want those type of elk either. Thankfully, our extensive scouting and trail camera efforts pay off every year. Plus we spend so much time in the field that finding big bulls on these later hunts is rarely and issue. For example just over the past 5 years over 95% of our clients have harvested mature 6x6 bulls.
FCHH: What is your favorite hunt to guide?
My favorite hunt to guide is probably the early elk hunts - either bow, rifle or muzzleloader. To me, the bugle of the bull elk is one of the most powerful and magical sounds on the planet. The late December Coues deer hunts are also in the rut and provide a lot of enjoyment for both client and guide.
FCHH: Personally, what is your favorite game to hunt?
Archery bull elk in the rut, period!
FCHH: What’s the dream hunt on your bucket list?
Alaska Dall sheep (I am 0/1), brown bear and an archery plains game safari in Africa.
FCHH: What makes your Guide Service stand out from other Outfitters?
From my experiences the Arizona guide pool is extremely talented. I think we (as outfitters) do a great job of supporting one another while in other states a more significant rivalry seems to exist. I think what stands Diamond Outfitters of Arizona apart is that we have 23 guides who are die-hard hunters that provide world-class hunts to our clients. Nothing is more rewarding for my team than to see a smiling client next to his or her trophy at the end of a hunt. These 23 guides give us a statewide footprint from the Strip region of Northern Arizona along the Utah line all the way to the Mexican border in the heart of Coues deer and mule deer country. We want our hunters to come as a client and leave as a friend. We do this by providing world class hunting in a very warm and comfortable cowboy style camp and we eat lots of delicious food served up by our cooking staff.
FCHH: What have been some of your most interesting clients?
We have hosted several television celebrities over the years and they are fun to guide and be around. I would have to say that when a hunting camp of clients becomes a hunting camp of buddies all cheering one another on that we have accomplished something special. Even the clients become friends with the other clients and they have typically ever even met before arriving at camp! Plus the laughter we all experience over the course of a hunt is life enriching! The best part is that we are all enjoying and exercising our right to hunt and eat wild game. At Diamond Outfitters of Arizona we celebrating freedom everyday!
